Future of the Manor House PDF Print E-mail

On Wednesday April 4 Bradford completed the lease to the Ilkley Manor House Trust to take over the Manor House.

And the following day Alan Titchmarsh, patron of the Ilkley Manor House Trust, cut the ribbon on the relaunched building in front of a packed courtyard.

Garden Weeds? or Welcome Flowers for Free? Well we love them. They arrived in the Manor House garden just a year or two ago and probably in yours too. Have they thrived on our warmer winters we wonder. It matters not. Photographs on the right are of Valerian (in the pink) and Pale Toad Flax, the purple one with the odd pale pink one amongst them. We would welcome more help in tending the gardens even if it’s just dead heading roses or undertaking some watering. Getting in gear for the Tour de Yorkshire!

There's just over a week to go before Tour de Yorkshire comes to Ilkley and the Manor House will be celebrating with our very own Cycling Event.

Join us to discover more about the history of cycling, Ilkley cycling past and cycling costumes. Find out about how in the 1900's the Robinsons, a tenant family at Manor House ran a Cycle Café & offered accommodation for visiting cyclists.

This family friendly event has lots to do and see - no matter what the weather next Friday might do! There is a host of craft activities themed around bicycles, including a build your own paper cut out bicycle!

For weary cyclists and non-cyclists alike we have a great coffee stall and refreshments in our cottage in the courtyard, as well as the Michelle from the Wellness Mission offer mini therapeutic sessions. Bike Rack available for those arriving by bike.

So whether you are visiting on foot or by bike come along between 10.30am – 4pm to discover more about the Manor House's links to Ilkley's cycling past.

'Manor House is a jewel in Ilkley's crown' say Alan Titchmarsh

Over 300 visitors joined celebrated gardener Mr Alan Titchmarsh on a warm, sunny spring at the official launching of the new Ilkley Manor House Trust on Thursday 5th April as he rallied people to get behind what he described as 'the jewel in the crown of Ilkley'

There was plenty to do including creative and heritage activities that the Manor House will be offering in the future: children and families enjoyed playing street games in the courtyard, dressing up in historical costumes and making pomanders.  Visitors joined Mr Titchmarsh, children from his former primary school and members of Outside the Box gardening group as they planted herb baskets.

We were absolutely delighted by the number of visitors who came to the Open Day and we would like to thank all those groups, organisations and individuals who supported the event and made it such a success.
